LunarFM is a multimodal foundation model of the Moon’s surface, built by the Frontier Development Lab and Trillium Technologies with the Luxembourg Space Agency, ESRIC and NASA Goddard. It maps 18 input channels from six instruments on three lunar missions into a single 768-dimensional embedding, covering latitudes from 70°S to 70°N. The embeddings support similarity search, few-shot resource mapping, mineral abundance regression and geological unit classification.
It produces surface embeddings rather than detections. For locating individual craters, Crater Detection is the model to use.
The lab offers LunarFM to Washington University groups only. Its license, PolyForm Strict 1.0.0, permits use by educational and public research institutions but forbids distributing the code or weights and forbids changes or new works based on them.

The lab runs this on its own compute, in a container, with the inputs and parameters recorded alongside the result. Initial scoping conversations are free.
